Trash to Flash

Learner: Imran    Learning Coach:  N.Denuwara         Date: Term 4
Learning Area:Technology
Learning Observed, Key Competencies/ Vision Principles
Imran  is participating in an iExperience session called “Trash to Flash”. This particular session focuses on creating a game or toy out of recycled material. During this session Imran is collaborating with three other learners by participating and contributing to making their Trash to Flash item. His group’s Trash to Flash item is a marble run. Imran and his group have been connecting to the internet to research for ideas for how he and his group could make the marble run. They have also been curious about the kinds of material they will need to make their marble run. Below is a brainstorm and diagram showing his capability at generating ideas. It shows the material they will need along with what their marble run is going to look like.

Ved, Imran and Arnav's Kayaking Experience

Learners: Arnav, Ved & Imran    Learning Coach: T.Dillner           Date: 3.12.15
Learning Area: Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) - Kayaking/Paddleboarding
Learning Observed
Arnav, Ved and Imran chose to participate in Selestine’s iExplore trip to go Paddle Boarding. The three boys were very keen to get out on the water and curious about what exactly paddle boarding entailed. Initially, they thought they would be spending their 60mins on the stand up paddle boards. However, due to the wind on the day, they were able to split their time between the paddle boards and kayaks. The worked collaboratively to navigate the kayak, which was quite a challenge at first. The wind and current were carrying them away from the safe paddling area, so they had to figure out the best way to paddle their kayak together. They learnt that if they did not work together, then they could not get to where they needed to be!
Arnav, Ved and Imran were able to practice the new paddling techniques that the instructors showed them. These transferred to the paddle boards too. All three boys had a turn to develop their capabilities with this.

Next Learning Steps
  • Give Selestine feedback about the trip -
    • What was your favourite part and why?
    • What could have been better and why?
  • Promote Paddle Boarding or Kayaking to other learners in the habitat. Why should they participate in this?
  • Suggest a Paddle Boarding or Kayaking trip with friends and/or family in the summer holidays.

PADDLE BOARDING!

3 December 2015

It was a bright sunny day at Mission bay while on the other hand was ORMPS (Ormiston primary school.) Nine learners were getting prepared for their AMAZING PADDLE BOARDING trip to Mission Bay! After a while when we all got there we changed our clothes and went to the instructors. They started to teach the basic rules. After that I had a try on the Kayak it was pretty fun then after a while I went on a single kayak and it was much fun! So over all I had the best day of my life!
